Report: Chelsea given deadline to submit transfer bid for Erling Haaland

Chelsea will have to submit a ridiculously huge bid soon to have any chance to sign Borussia Dortmund ace Erling Haaland, according to Fabrizio Romano (via Benchwarmers).

The Blues have been linked with a few elite strikers in this transfer window; Haaland, Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku, and Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski.

Unsurprisingly, these players are exactly the type of players that clubs are not particularly keen to part ways with.

In fact, chiefs of Dortmund, Inter, and Bayern have even come out and clarified that their respective goalscorer is not up for sale.

Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta described Lukaku’s situation this summer as “non-transferable”.

Bayern president Herbert Hainer and Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl made similar statements regarding Lewandowski and Haaland, respectively.

Romano, however, suggested that while Chelsea seem to accept Inter and Bayern’s stances, they have not given up on chasing Haaland.

Dortmund will turn down any late approach, Romano claims

So far, the report added, Chelsea have yet to make any bid or even any official approach.

On the other hand, Dortmund are reportedly confident that they can keep their goalscoring machine, even if they were to be offered €150million (£128m).

But if the Blues, or rather their owner Roman Abramovich, insist on trying to make an offer, they will have to lodge their bid soon.

Dortmund, as Romano highlighted, would not want to be in negotiations over Haaland’s potential exit in the last week of the transfer window (Romano specifically mentioned around 25-30 August).

The Bundesliga side have already signed Donyell Malen, but they would understandably want to sign a replacement if they were to lose Haaland and rather not do it under time pressure.
